Oak Park's first subdivision dates to 1914, when the township sold land to the Majestic Land Company, but the city didn't take real shape until it incorporated as a village in 1927 and then as a city on October 29, 1945. GI Bill financing, new highway access, and planned developments drove such explosive growth that Oak Park was named America's Fastest-Growing City for the decade from 1950 to 1960.
