Why local history matters
Warren began in 1830 as a small settlement called Beebe's Corners. Its modern identity took shape during World War II, when the Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant opened in 1941 and built more than 22,000 tanks by war's end -- over a quarter of all U.S. tank production -- and was cemented in 1956, when General Motors dedicated its Technical Center campus in Warren.

In February 2025 the city opened a new $37.5 million, 22-million-gallon detention basin specifically to reduce basement flooding and cut sewage discharges into the Red Run Drain during heavy storms.
